I thought I was using real J201's from Polida until I switched them for these SMD JFET's and suddenly entire pedals came to life. I usually order them in batches of 25. Most of them J201's although I have ordered MMBF5457's and some MMBF4393's as well. Factory-soldered smd version of J201 on-board Used as a 'tube-replacement' in many DIY circuits that are emulating amplifier tones Just use some cut-off leads from a resistor or diode, and solder to the 3 pads and you have a through-hole JFET The pads are marked for Drain, Source and Gate, making these super easy to integrate into your main PCB.

J201 Smd Adapter

This PCB allows you to build a JHS Superbolt clone. The Superbolt is heavily inspired by the Supreaux Deux, a circuit emulating the preamp of an old Supro amp.
J201Four controls:
  • Gain: can go from an always on light drive to a heavy overdriven sound
  • Volume: plenty on tap
  • Tone Control, mainly to shape the treble content of the pedal.
  • Hi / Lo switch : emulate the two inputs of the amp. Help you to set the amount of trebles as well to choose between a gritty gain or something warmer.

J201Genuine through-hole JFETs are more and more difficult to find these days (most of the through-hole JFETs sold online are fakes), so you can order a presoldered board with genuine Fairchild Semiconductors J201 SMD JFETsJ201 that are the best in class. Smd

Fake JFETs sound quite bad sounding, so by ordering the presoldered board, you will be sure to have a good sounding guitar pedal.
High quality PCB:
  • Gold-plated pads
  • Double sided FR4-TG circuit boards
  • Spaced pads for easier soldering

Sadly, the through-hole J201 is no longer produced, and remaining supplies from ebay/China are so out of spec, they are not usable. SMD is the solution. The SMD (surface-mount device) version of this JFET is still available, and is produced today by leading chip manufacturers with very high tolerances. Great news right? Well, SMD and DIY don't mix well for most (practically all) people.

Check out the size-comparison picture on this page. The SMD package is the black spec to the 2 pieces of instant rice. A regular through-hole JFET is also pictured. Obviously, these things are tiny. While some builders may have 'some' smd experience, probably none will match the quality of assembly of these factory-produced prefabricated micro-PCBs with the J201 already soldered into place. Beautiful! The same black-spec-transistor is shown next to the pre-soldered boards.
